Lionel Bayol - Thémines was born in Castelsarrasin in 1967. He lives and works in Paris .
A biochemist by training , Lionel Bayol - Thémines is a self-taught photographer . Active member of the collective Lucette Omnibus in the 90s , he heads the Forum of the image in Toulouse from 1998 to 2002 before moving to Paris in 2004. Permanent resident of the National Foundation of graphic and plastic arts ( FNAGP ) he devoted himself to his personal research and teaches photography and graphic design in various private schools in Paris
After having worked on a plastic research centered in human being , Lionel Bayol - Themines develops a visual universe where coexist symbiotically both worlds , or rather two spaces , one real and one virtual.
Inspired by philosopher Vilém Flusser - who questioned the history of images and their creative process - or by such artists like Joan Fontcuberta - who worked on the "truth" of photography, its ability to represent reality, to testify or manipulate history, Lionel Bayol - Themines create singular images that question the ability of digital photography to generate other "realities" . The artist also claims the material dimension of the images by developing devices that are real photographic sculptures.
