Alessandro Vasapolli was born in Turin in 1988. He grad­u­ated in eco­nom­ics from ESCP Europe in 2012, obtain­ing a triple degree: Italian, English, and French.
He lived for just under a decade between Paris, London, and Turin before return­ing to Italy per­ma­nently in 2019.

Intrigued by the per­cep­tion of real­ity by humans, the artist’s ulti­mate chal­lenge is to cre­ate an authen­tic photo, with­out any post-​production, that is as far from real­ity as possible.

During his uni­ver­sity years, he turned his youth­ful pas­sion for pho­tog­ra­phy into a pro­fes­sion, start­ing out as a fash­ion pho­tog­ra­pher before ded­i­cat­ing him­self entirely to art. Completely self-​taught, he ini­tially focused on the study of film, from 35mm to 4x5, black and white, pos­i­tive and neg­a­tive, and print­ing in the dark­room, a room that is still present in his stu­dio today. These works led him to develop a per­sonal algo­rithm that, applied directly to the dig­i­tal cam­era, causes the photo to be gen­er­ated directly with col­ors that would oth­er­wise be unre­pro­ducible with any other means of post-​production. All of the author’s pho­tographs are absolutely orig­i­nal, just as they come out of the camera.

Another pecu­liar tech­ni­cal fea­ture of the artist is the use of spe­cial opti­cal fil­ters, pro­duced by him using dif­fer­ent meth­ods and substances.

The shots always come to life in his stu­dio, in front of large can­vases used as back­grounds, which he paints him­self using var­i­ous techniques.

All prints, due to the high level of com­plex­ity in their prepa­ra­tion, are pro­duced directly by the author in his per­sonal print­ing lab­o­ra­tory in order to per­son­ally take care of every detail in their cre­ation and ensure max­i­mum fidelity and quality.
