“Black and White II”

“Black and White II” by Kyriakos Kaziras.

“Africa and the Arctic : two worlds that are polar opposites, yet inseparable in photographic terms. The landscapes are magnificent, the wildlife profoundly wild, and the light oscillates between enveloping softness and raw intensity.

My work falls at the extremes of both spectrums: the deepest blacks and the brightest whites, without ever sacrificing detail — whether it be the dark fur of the panther or the immaculate hairs of the polar bear.

My goal is to magnify nature and wildlife, and to evoke emotion in those who contemplate the image. For me, photography is about seeking that point of balance where visual beauty becomes a sensory experience.

Over the years, my outlook has darkened as my optimism has waned. The world is changing, territories are becoming more fragile, and this tension is now reflected in my work. However, if two animals as different as the polar bear and the black panther can coexist on the same planet and convey similar emotions to visitors, then, despite their differences, human beings can also learn to live together.”
