Sanlé Sory
« Jour et Nuit »
To mark the October 2026 publication by Phaidon of *Sanlé Sory* — the first monograph dedicated to the work of the renowned Burkinabé photographer — A.Galerie presents a retrospective featuring a wide selection of his photographs, some of which have never been shown before.
Through his studio portraits and images of nightlife, Sanlé Sory has immortalized an era and a generation, bearing witness to the profound social and cultural transformations in West Africa in the wake of independence. His photographs chronicle, in particular, the youth of Bobo-Dioulasso — its fashions, music, celebrations, and the emerging norms of a rapidly changing society.
This exhibition will provide A.Galerie with the opportunity to present an exceptional collection of portraits and scenes from daily life, highlighting the richness and modernity of Sanlé Sory’s vision. Spanning the intimacy of the studio and the excitement of nightlife, his work stands today as a precious testament to an era, while retaining an aesthetic power and freedom that continue to resonate with current generations.
