David Zimmerman was born in 1955 in Milwaukee in the United States. He mainly works in Taos in New Mexico or in Jogiwara Village, in northern India.
Graduate of the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California, he left to live in 1982 with his wife and their newborn baby, in New York, where he became the assistant of great press and advertising photographers.
In 1985, he began his freelance career, already focusing on projects related to the environment, but nevertheless worked on advertising campaigns for major brands (Pepsi, Mercedes-Benz, American Express, Unilever, etc.).
During over the past three decades, several of his series, including Desert, Last Refuge, and, more recently, One Voice, have focused on landscapes and cultures threatened by environmental, social, economic, and political causes. They have been exhibited all over the world.
