Laurence Perratzi is a French figurative artist who explores the expression of the body. His work is a reflection on movement, strongly influenced by his background as an athlete, where poise and balance are paramount.
The figures defy gravity with subtle poses or sometimes snapshots of the body in action.
Progressively, the balance and fluidity of these bodies become an interpretation that integrates them into a story, staging them in a situation that challenges, makes us smile or sometimes questions.
Laurence uses circles, frames, nylon threads representing rain and clouds to stage these bodies and bring out the interaction between them and the world around them.
This great freedom to work extends to the exploration of new elements such as matter and texture. Texture evolves from smooth to rougher, more irregular, more expressive and lively, according to Laurence.
She also plays with the sometimes surprising dialogue between materials such as paper, fabric, jesmonite and polyurethane foam, materials that are unexpected or considered “incompatible” with the nobility of bronze. These associations enable her to breathe simplicity, freedom, life and warmth into bronze, which is so vibrant and extraordinary when cast, but regains a certain rigidity when cooled. Laurence loves to create new balances that defy gravity, make the body speak, and move towards an aesthetic that’s uninhibited by letting go. Laurence Perratzi graduated from the École Supérieure de Commerce in 1993 and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, and began her professional life in Finance. She first worked for BNP in Hong Kong (in Private Banking), then for Gap in San Francisco (in International Treasury) and finally for Letsbuyit, in France, Spain and Italy (as Managing Director).
Although enthusiastic about her financial career, Laurence discovered her passion for sculpture in 2000, and thus began her artistic trajectory. She really developed it when she arrived in London in 2005, where she lived for some fifteen years. Today Laurence is back in Paris. Her studio is at Les Frigos de Paris.
Laurence exhibits in numerous contemporary art fairs and galleries around the world.
