François Fontaine born in Paris, France, in 1968, holds a doctorate in the History of Art.
A keen traveler and photographer, for the last twenty years he has been producing chromatic and dreamlike series inspired by oriental cultures. For ten years he has been exploring the theme of individual and collective memory drawn from films and paintings. His images, hypnotic and timeless, based on films – fiction and documentary ‑projected on a screen, are an invitation to inner iconic journeys.
François Fontaine’s work can be found in many collections : Bibliothèque Nationale de France (Paris), Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris), Collection Fnac (Paris), Fondation Hermès (Paris), Leica Camera, Maison de la Photographie Robert Doisneau (Gentilly, France), Institut Lumière (Lyon, France) and Guangdong Museum of Art (Guangzhou, China).
