Reading the Work
Mark Seliger’s work finds its balance in elegant, editorial, and expressive portrait photography, attentive to the personality of the subject. It stands out for its ability to condense a public figure’s identity into a powerful, readable, and sophisticated image. His photographs benefit from a close reading attentive to nuance: a compositional detail, a particular distance maintained with the subject, a quality of light, or a texture often reveals their depth.
